While traditional dentistry focuses on oral hygiene as well as preventing, diagnosing, and treating oral diseases & problems, cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of a person's teeth, mouth, and smile.

When you hear the term 'cosmetic,' it may conjure up images of in-depth reconstructive procedures that could be a bit scary or intimidating.

However, many are surprised to learn that cosmetic dentistry includes and focuses on many procedures that are familiar terms in today's world...terms that you normally associate with dentistry anyhow:

Common Cosmetic Dental Procedures

  • FILLINGS - This traditional procedure can also be included in the category of cosmetic dentistry when porcelain and composite materials are used to promote a more 'tooth-like' appearance.
  • ONLAYS - a porcelain covering attached to a tooth to restore its biting surface
  • TOOTH WHITENING- Teeth whitening is perhaps the most commonly recommended cosmetic dentistry procedure. Teeth are often stained from smoking, food, drink (coffee, soft drinks, tea, or red wine), or inconsistent oral hygiene. Whitening the teeth can enhance the appearance of your smile.
  • VENEERS - Porcelain laminates bonded to the surface of a tooth to replace chips and cracks will improve a severe tooth discoloration or worn appearance. Veneers may also be recommended if you have gaps in your teeth or if you have not had success with teeth whitening.  Being that veneers do not discolor over time, patients can rest assured that their veneer and natural tooth will be difficult to tell apart
  • DENTAL IMPLANTS - Dental implants are artificial tooth root replacements that are used in order to compensate for tooth loss. Often the result is not only an enhanced smile, but also a more youthful appearance (missing teeth cause the face to collapse, making you look older).
  • CROWNS - A crown reproduces all of the same aspects of your natural tooth. A crown is impressioned once a tooth has been trimmed down and decay has been removed, so that it will be able to be reproduced in dental stone.
  • BONDING - Use of a tooth-colored filling material to change color size of shape of anterior teeth in one visit. Bonding is a process that allows for a strong connection between a dental material and your tooth. This is the most effective seal in dentistry today.
